Re-associate Dimension

KeyCreator Detail Reassociate Dimension

Use this feature to re-associate dimensions. This is often useful when importing parts from older versions, or when changes to a model cause dimensions within the file to become non-associated. When you select  the Dimension Association and Measured Value option(s),you can use the Re-Associate Dimensions function to identify non-associated dimensions. Non-associated dimensions that are flagged or denoted can be re-associated with this function.

When using this function, it will be helpful to keep the following items in mind:

  • You can elect to skip a dimension. This is most useful if dimensions were selected that cannot be re-associated. Note that you are not allowed to use the skip options when re-associating an angular dimension.

  • When baseline dimensions are being re-associated, sub-elements will be handled separately.

  • When the entities are updated, then their Edit Value checkbox will be set to true but their old displayed value will be retained. This allows you to keep the way the dimension looked prior to fixing but correct them if you desire. Use the Correct Value of Dimension When Re-attached setting in the Dimensions tab in the Set Configuration Options dialog to force the new value to be displayed. This action will discard the old dimension value.

Using the Function:
  1. Select Re-Associate Dimension from the Detail Menu. You are then prompted by the Conversation Bar to select the dimension(s) to re-associate.

  2. Using one of the Selection Menu options, choose the dimension(s) to re-associate. A selection mask will be set on dimensions and allow selection of multiple dimensions.

When an angular dimension is selected you will be asked to select the method of re-attachment, from either 2 Lines or 3 Points. Dimensions will then be fixed one at a time. The positions to which they currently refer are highlighted. The dimension highlights and a marker appears at the position to which the dimension currently references. The marker will appear as an "X" if the position is non-associative. If the position is associative, the marker will appear as a triangle. The Universal Position Menu will appear in the Conversation Bar for you to select an associative reference position for the witness line. To leave the position unchanged, click the ACCEPT button option.

  3. Hit the ESCAPE key to exit the function at any time. Hit the BACKUP key when selecting the dimension to simply exit the function. Hit the BACKUP key when selecting the first position to deselect the dimension and prompt for a dimension to re-associate. When selecting a second position for the same dimension, hit the BACKUP key to highlight the first witness line and to request a position for it.
