Special Symbols for Dimension Text
Special symbols that are used in drafting are accessible from the Symbols button in the Create a New Note dialog box. These can be applied to all notes, labels, prefix, suffixes and dimension text. The symbol abbreviation appears in the dialog box and the actual symbol is placed in the file. The symbol abbreviations also can be typed directly into the text editor. For example, "This is a test of |RAD 1234.", without quotes, results in, This is a test of R 1234. Note that the subscript and superscript symbol abbreviations start a subscript or superscript block of text, which ends at the next encountered symbol abbreviation. For example, both "This is a |SUPtest of|SUP 1234." and "This is a |SUPtest of |RAD 1234." (without quotes) result in the words "test of" as superscripts.
The Windows character map extended symbol library can also be used in the text editor. To view the character map for a given font go to Windows Start>Search Programs and file and type in character map or go to All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>Character Map. Choose the font and click on the symbol desired. You will see a KEYSTROKE: followed by the keystroke combination used to get this symbol (example Arial 1/4 symbol= press Alt key and enter 0188 on the numeric keypad.) An exception occurs when using KeyCreator stroke fonts (Box, Bold and Smooth fonts) which have a special mapping listed below.
