Least Squares Fit
Measured points that are intended to define a plane can deviate from a mathematically defined plane. A plane cannot be created from points that are not coplanar. So an approximation is required. A technique from the field of Statistics called "Least Squares Fitting" assumes that the best fit to such data is the minimal sum of the deviations squared. The Least Squares Fit function applies this technique to the points you enter so that the resulting plane more accurately approximates the actual data.
USING THE FUNCTION
-
Click Create>Planes>Least Squares Fit. The Conversation Bar appears.
-
Following the prompts on the Conversation Bar, enter the desired pointst, and click Done. The plane appears.
