A common reason for this is that the file type version is not supported, (an updated version for example): File Type and Version Support
Setting Units
Validate provides a Read Unit of measure for Catia V5 and Parasolid which is set in Customize Application.
Hidden Entities:
By default hidden entities are not read when opening a CAD file (useful when unnecessary content is present in file). Use Customize Applications — Read Hidden Entities to show all hidden entities when loading file.
Hide — Unhide during a Compare is also available once parts are loaded, located in Toolbarand Part Tree.
Derivative STL Compare
Authority CAD data can be compared with an STL derivative file. After choosing Authority CAD data, STL option will appear in Derivative file listing. Compare Options will auto set to Points To Faces/Surfaces and Derivative to Authority, (manualy set tolerance if needed). A Compare will place tempoary points in display when Show differenece or hover/selecting difference nodes in Results tree.
Repeat process choosing Home and Compare Files, opens another compare session.
